The Trailers
In 2019, we needed to demolish the “Middle House”, which was the primary housing for the men at our Men’s Campus. We were fortunate to be connected with two oil and gas/mining trailers that would help house our clients. This was a temporary solution to give us time to raise the funds we needed to build a new housing solution; one that was built well, and built to last.
When 2019 threw everyone a curve ball, it impacted the appropriateness of our campaign, the building costs, and the overall feasibility. Being able to put a shovel in the ground has taken a bit longer than we anticipated.
Unfortunately, the trailers that are serving as our temporary solution have been carrying more of a load than we had hoped. With their design being geared for the great white north, the B.C atmospheric rivers and heat waves have taken their toll. In addition, the Agriculture Land Commission granted us the ability to build the new men’s residence with the condition that the trailers were to be removed. These trailers did what we needed them to and they clearly have an end date.
They have to go!
It has been neat to see the men make the trailers their home. They have made a new imprint on their lives while living here and on ours. We are looking forward to building the new residence to provide them a better place to call home and to make new lasting memories in a place intentionally designed for them.
